Some good news is that in July I was fortunate enough to be aboard an expedition to southeastern Alaska on a small boat. I gathered enough source material to last for quite some time. Bits and pieces of that material will start appearing on a canvas near me in the near future.
Some not so good news is that Covid came home with me as an unwanted souvenir. It wasn’t fun. But, I have recovered and had planned to give myself a break from doing the newsletter/blog thing this month to conserve my somewhat diminished supply of PEU’s (Personal Energy Units). However, that plan has been overcome by good news which has resulted in ………
A Bit of Shameless Self-Promotion
I was quite pleased to receive word that the painting I submitted to the 2024 KVIE Art Auction was awarded 1st Place in the Landscape division. Here is a link to the awards page - KVIE Awards
“The Hills on the Border” is a 42”x54’ acrylic on canvas that I completed last year and is from a series of photos I took out of the window of an airliner on approach to Salt Lake City during somewhat stormy conditions. I stole the title from a song by Sting which has this great opening line:
Oh, the hills on the border
'Bout this time of the year
When the mists seem to gather
In the valley of your fears.
The painting progressed something like this:
The artwork will be on display at the KVIE studios from September 3 ~ 25 and the live (on-air) portion of the auction is September 27, 28, 29. I’ll try to provide more specifics when I learn just when “The Hills on the Border” will be offered for on air bidding.
