Fred has been with me for almost two years now and has for the most part settled into his role as studio manager, which is to say that he manages to relocate loose objects such as paint and brushes from the worktable to their proper location on the floor. He performs various other tasks as he sees fit and is particularly fond of helping me with my typing. In Starter Villain, a very funny novel by John Scalzi, cats are sentient and communicate with humans by using a computer keyboard. Fred has not yet achieved that skill level, but he’s diligently working on it. It’s kind of scary.
In The Studio
Either because of or despite Fred’s management skills and help, work has been getting done in the studio. Chichagof is an island off the southeast coast of Alaska and the painting is first diptych that I’ve tried.
This is how it looks on the wall at ARTHOUSE and it will be there for November’s 2nd Saturday this Saturday the 11th. Come by and look from 5 to 8pm. If you miss 2nd Saturday, starting Thursday November 21, you can find Chichagof at the SMUD gallery located in the customer lobby at 6301 S Street, Sacramento. The gallery is open from 8am to 6pm Monday through Friday. I’m pretty pleased with the company that Chichagof will be keeping. The other artists whose work will be featured are Gregory Kondos, Malaquias Montoya, Jerald Silva, Julia Couzens, Maija Peeples Bright, Nancy Gotthart, Anne Gregory, and Julia Stagg/James Albertson.
Overall, doing a diptych was fun although it did present a few challenges, both logistical and conceptual. These are progress photos of some of the stops along the way.
That’s about it for now. Fred has asked me to state that any typos or misrepresentations in this newsletter are my doing and not his.
